Green Products

Did you know that India manufactures about 707 million metric tons of plastic in a year and about 25,940 tons of plastic waste is generated in our country in a day!

Where are we heading towards?

According to a study conducted by the Mahindra Group, titled ‘Alternativism’,
About 83 per cent of the respondents described themselves to be ‘interested’ in making lifestyle changes such as carpooling, using public transport or adopting electric vehicles.
The study also found that only 27 per cent of respondents are able to find alternatives which minimize their use of plastic.

People are aware of the upcoming consequences and are definitely trying to bring up changes in their life styles. A study from 2015 says that 73% of the consumers (the green generation) across 60 countries are willing to pay more for sustainable products.
This makes it more important for entrepreneurs and other business enthusiasts to focus on shifting their production to an eco-friendly direction.

What are green products?
A green product is a sustainable product designed to minimize its environmental impacts during its whole life-cycle and even after it’s of no use.

The green generation, is more inclined to “going green” as they believe in making decisions that are environmentally friendly and use products that are sustainable and cause very less or no pollution.

In the usual scenario, brands producing green products use green marketing to communicate their value proposition to the market.

Some of the characteristics of a green product are:
- Grown without the use of toxic chemicals and within hygienic conditions
- Can be recycled, reused and is biodegradable in nature
- Comes with eco-friendly packing
- Uses the least resources
- Is eco-efficient
- Has reduced or zero carbon footprint
- Has reduced or zero plastic footprint

What Is Green Marketing?
Green marketing refers to the practice of developing and advertising products based on their real or perceived environmental sustainability.

Examples of green marketing include advertising the reduced emissions associated with a product’s manufacturing process, or the use of post-consumer recycled materials for a product's packaging. Some companies also may market themselves as being environmentally-conscious companies by donating a portion of their sales proceeds to environmental initiatives, such as tree planting. Major companies who have implemented green marketing are Wipro and Infosys.
